This Privacy Policy explains how AniComment handles account data, anime metadata, watch progress, subscriptions, community activity, and AniComment Companion extension data on the hosted AniComment service.
AniComment stores the account information you provide during signup, including your email address, username, display name, and optional avatar or bio details. It also stores activity you create in the product such as watch progress, saved shows, profile favorite picks, list membership, comments, reports, and notification state.
AniComment Companion, our Chrome extension, reads limited page context on supported streaming pages so it can attach the correct AniComment discussion board while you watch. This limited page context includes the current page URL, page title, visible headings, and accessible labels on supported pages. When you are signed in to AniComment, the extension may also load your AniComment account-linked profile display information, your submitted comments, and your saved watch progress in order to show discussions, let you post, and keep spoiler controls aligned with your account.
AniComment Companion stores some settings locally in your browser through chrome.storage.local. This includes floating bubble visibility, collapsed state, bubble position, saved page-to-discussion mappings for supported streaming pages, and recently used discussion targets. This local extension storage is used for product functionality and convenience. The extension does not store your password, payment data, or full browsing history in local storage.
Anime catalog information shown in AniComment comes from AniList and is cached in our database to improve performance and support episode discussion routing. We do not claim ownership over provider metadata, cover art, banner art, or related franchise information.
We use your data to operate the service, protect spoiler visibility based on your progress, show your lists and profile, deliver in-app notifications, support moderation, and troubleshoot abuse or operational issues. For the extension, limited supported-page context is used only to identify or attach the correct AniComment discussion board and to let signed-in users read discussions, post comments, and save watch progress. We do not use AniComment to host anime streams or downloadable media.
Some information can be visible to other users depending on product settings and the content you choose to post. Public anime pages, discussion threads, and public lists may be visible to guests. Your private lists, private notifications, and account-level settings are intended to remain restricted according to application permissions and Supabase row-level security.
AniComment provides an in-app notification inbox. We may also send transactional email such as account verification, password reset, billing, or service notices through our configured email provider. Some notification features may remain in-app only.
AniComment is operated as a hosted online service. We may use service providers such as Supabase for authentication and database infrastructure, Stripe for subscriptions and billing, AniList for anime metadata, and other operational providers for email, monitoring, or translation support where enabled. AniComment Companion connects to AniComment.com APIs to load discussions, search show boards, check sign-in status, post comments, and save watch progress, but does not execute remote code inside the extension.
AniComment Companion does not collect passwords, payment card numbers, precise location, health data, or keystroke logging. It does not read video streams, bypass DRM, or download media. AniComment does not sell personal data and does not use collected data for unrelated advertising or lending purposes.
Account and activity data may be retained as long as needed to operate AniComment, enforce moderation decisions, maintain audit logs, preserve discussion integrity, comply with legal obligations, or resolve billing and abuse issues. We may delete or anonymize data when it is no longer needed for those purposes.
We may update this Privacy Policy as the service evolves. If we make material changes, we may update this page or provide notice through AniComment. Privacy questions should be directed to AniComment through the support or contact channel provided on the service.
